Job Summary

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical equipment and systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role involves equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation, testing, and maintenance while complying with established safety standards, maintenance procedures, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, fans, blowers, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes, piping systems, and other plant machinery.

  • Inspect mechanical equipment and identify abnormal conditions such as excessive vibration, unusual noise, overheating, leakage, misalignment, wear, corrosion, and equipment deterioration.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures, determine possible causes, and perform appropriate repairs or corrective actions.

  • Conduct equipment disassembly, inspection, repair, replacement of defective components, reassembly, alignment, testing, and commissioning.

  • Perform basic equipment condition monitoring activities and report findings that may affect equipment reliability or plant operations.

  • Assist in equipment installation, modification, rehabilitation, and improvement projects.

  • Execute maintenance work in accordance with approved work orders, job plans, procedures, technical manuals, drawings, and equipment specifications.

  • Use mechanical tools, measuring instruments, lifting equipment, and workshop machines safely and properly.

  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, other maintenance disciplines, contractors, and service providers during maintenance activities.

  • Participate in planned outages, emergency repairs, and equipment restoration activities as required.

  • Ensure proper housekeeping and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, workshops, tools, and equipment.

  • Comply with company safety policies, Permit-to-Work requirements, Lockout/Tagout procedures, risk assessments, and applicable environmental regulations.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities, incidents, and potential operational risks to the immediate supervisor.

  • Prepare accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, equipment findings, work completion reports, and recommendations.

  • Assist in identifying required spare parts, materials, tools, and resources for maintenance activities.

  • Support equipment reliability initiatives, root cause analysis, continuous improvement activities, and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology major in Mechanical Technology, or any related technical course.

  • Registered Mechanical Engineer or Registered Master Plumber is an advantage but not required.

  • Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, power plants, or similar industries is preferred.

  • Fresh graduates with relevant technical training, internship experience, or strong mechanical aptitude may be considered.

  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment operation, maintenance practices, troubleshooting, repair, and equipment inspection.

  • Basic knowledge of pumps, valves, piping systems, rotating equipment, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, lubrication, and mechanical power transmission systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures.

  • Knowledge of equipment alignment, bearing installation, basic fabrication, and mechanical measurements is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of occupational safety requirements, Permit-to-Work systems, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Work Requirements

  • Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, holidays, overtime, or during emergency maintenance activities when required.

  • Willing to participate in plant outage activities.

  • Physically capable of performing field maintenance work, including standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, lifting tools or equipment, and working in confined spaces when necessary.

  • Willing to work in industrial environments with exposure to heat, noise, dust, vibration, and other plant conditions while using the required personal protective equipment.
